ABOUT THE NAME

WHAT’S IN A NAME ~ CHRISARAS.COM

The website name is a combination of my mother’s name Chris, and grandmother’s name Sara.

My grandmother Sara had an antique store at the old farm in Bishopville, South Carolina. She was the one that started my obsession with all things old and unique. She taught me about the local area and how antiques was a part of that history.

The Bishopville farm plantation had been in our family since the 1800's. When I was young I would go to the old plantation site and dig up all kinds of things of history. I loved it.

When I got older my mother reminded me how much I loved the hunt for history. I started buying and selling antiques, and my mother would teach me what was good or bad. Sadly she passed away shortly after I started my business.

A few years ago I found The Barn, and I was able to buy it with the help from a good friend. I know my mother Chris was looking down on me smiling, surely she must have had something to do with it!

*If you remember this barn and have some more info or pictures, please drop me a line!

I would love to know more about it.

       Thank you,

       John

THE DREAM OF THE MUSEUM

THE BARN

I found the barn two years ago. It was built in 1960 by the Anderson family and became The Anderson Skating Rink. People had a great time roller skating there until it closed down for good in 2001.
The barn was then remodeled and turned into an auto body shop.

THE DREAM

My dream is to turn this old barn in to a museum for people to visit and to learn a little about the Southern lifestyle. A museum with everyday and unusual items from the home, farm and industry, all dating from the 1700’s up until the 1980’s.

I have pictures and video from the time when I first took over the barn, and I will give weekly updates with the progress of making my dream into a reality. I would like to thank some of my friends for donations of display items to the museum.
If you are interested in making a donation, please contact me by phone or email.
